Sky lights ?!
Roof opening covered with translucent or transparent glass or plastic designed to admit daylight. Skylights have found wide application admitting steady, even light in industrial, commercial, and residential buildings, especially those with a northern orientation. Installations range from purely functional day lighting to elaborate aesthetic forms. Flat-roofed buildings may have domed skylights; in others the skylight follows the slope of the roof. Often the skylight, or a portion of it, functions as an operating window to admit air.
Skylights. You were the one for it.
I was against cutting through the ceiling.
I liked it dark and closed.
It's claustrophobic giving me the feeling of safety.
But when the ceilings opened, the immense, extravagant
sky peeped and held surprise wide open.
It made me realize all that I've missed.
It's expanse, its beauty, its light.
I felt I was an inhabitant in a house that I called mine so long.
For what's a house without an opening to the sky
where hearts can roam and wander free.
An old man chained to closed walls is now on a design spree,
cutting ceilings to make sure lights and sky are all there's to see.
